Strategic Planning in the Pharmaceutical Distribution System

PROLOGUE With many of the uncertainties facing the distribution and provision of pharmacy and other health care services, future managers must understand the importance of conducting the strategic planning process. The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of strategic planning and the steps of the strategic planning process for organizations in the pharmaceutical distribution system. Each step of the process is described with examples related to the various organizations in the distribution system, including pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesalers, community and institutional pharmacies. The process discussed can be applied to any organization in the system, regardless of the type or size of organization.
